The vehicle identification number is a 17-character code. It identifies the vehicle and helps us find the right model information.
Three places to look
- Dashboard: look through the windshield at the lower driver-side corner.
- Driver’s door opening: find the manufacturer’s label on the door or pillar.
- Paperwork: check the registration or insurance document.
Check before you enter it
Match the VIN on the vehicle to the paperwork. Modern VINs use letters and numbers but not I, O or Q. A mismatch deserves an explanation before you commit.
VinPrism checks the format and check digit for modern North American VINs. Older vehicles and some imported VIN formats are not supported.
