Start with the identity and records
Match the VIN across the vehicle and registration. Confirm the seller is entitled to sell it. Request service invoices, completed recall paperwork and disclosure of known issues.
Fill the history gaps
Obtain the accident, ownership, theft and provincial lien checks relevant to your transaction. VinPrism does not supply these records. Verify important information with the issuing authority or a qualified provider.
Arrange an independent inspection
Choose your own qualified mechanic. Ask for a written assessment, a road test, diagnostic scan and inspection of the underbody, brakes, tires, steering and powertrain. A report about the model cannot establish the condition of one vehicle.
Put the total cost on paper
Include the purchase price, applicable taxes and registration, insurance, financing, fuel, tires and any immediate work identified by the mechanic. A market guide price is one reference point, not a substitute for a condition assessment.
